I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this game. I guess I didn't realize exactly what it was. It is like playing a board game with yourself and against the computer (who I feel cheats). I am trading this in to earn credit towards something else.
So when I heard that a mario party ds game was coming out I was a little more than excited. When you do use the touch screen its only in a hand full of mini games. You do this by competing on all 5 mario party maps and finishing in first place. Sometimes I felt like I was playing the original mario party game way back on the N64. STORY=6Mario party games don't need a story so I don't even know why they bothered. The story is that which ever character you picked finds a star piece that fell out of the sky and its up to you to find the other 5 pieces and put them back together. I've always enjoyed the mario party games. The mini games you should easily master as long as you don't get careless.GRAPHICS=8Graphics look really good in this game.
There is a lot to do in this game such as story mode, party mode, mini game mode, and puzzle mode. So the controls are pretty simple and quick to get use to.CHALLENGE=7like I said before the computer characters won't get to difficult until the very last map and even then they are still pretty easy. The badges and trophies don't serve any real purpose, there just like acheivements on xbox 360 or the trophies on ps3. In fact you probably use the touch screen maybe 5% of the time in this game. However this mario party game wasn't the party that I thought it was. OVERALL=7The game is pretty good for mario party standards and it does keep you busy.
The one thing I will say is that the computers difficulity does go up on the different maps.CONTROLS=9This is one of the few DS games that hardly use the touch screen or mic. So must of the game is played with the D-pad and buttons. Some of the mini games are pretty stupid and simple. If you are a mario party fan than this game is just for you, you won't be disappointed.
Now that's all well and good, but I've come across some problems, one being the mixed bag of minigames. The "Mario Party" franchise has finally branched out to the Nintendo DS, cutting the fun--literally and figuratively--down to size. While mostly intended for the pre-teen crowd and mastered with little practice, the concepts of some games, like driving a racecar by spinning a wheel with the stylus, are just a little out there.Also, if you earn enough special points, you win a bunch of prizes. In the game you guide a miniaturized Mario and company through colorful board games that decide who gets to save the day. To do that, 4 players face off in a series of minigames to earn coins to trade for stars, and the player with the most stars gets to fight a boss character and advance. Now I like virtual figures and trophies and props as much as the next guy, but nothing replaces new characters, games, and play modes (which mostly consist of the minigames you've already played a hundred times). By then, the bag of treats you get from "Mario Party DS" gets pretty stale pretty fast.This game is rated E for Everyone: Comic Mischief.
I just thought the game was more of an adventure game but it wasn't, but overall it was ok.
When I was younger, I absolutely loved Mario Party for N64. For a while, I enjoyed it. But after playing this the entire ride home (I was spending the weekend at my mother's house, who lives about 40 minutes from any type of big city where I could buy this) I was done. My mom bought this as gift for me. The actual board game part of the game seems to drag on and on, the computer players are cheaters lol, like in every other game, and the mini games are the only good part of the game, as it always has been. We went to best buy, debating over either this game, or Peggle. I had almost all of them and spent hours playing them with my friends, and by myself. It was exactly what I had expected and almost identical to N64.
And now I wish I would have chosen peggle. It not only was $10 cheaper, but probably would have been much more worth the $30 that was spent on this. I pretty much got to see everything that this game has to offer in one short sitting. I'd buy this used if I were you.I would sell mine, but I just feel horrible about selling things I've barely touched, especially if they were given to me.
